JEF Tsunami Relief Appeal

The Effort to Date - 22 January 2005

The current status of our relief effort:

  • 10 tonnes of brand new Bonds underwear has reached Sri Lanka.
  • 20 tonnes of Tents have been arranged to be delivered to Sri Lanka at this moment
  • One 40 foot container leaves Sydney this weekend filled with new clothes, shoes, toiletries, sanitary napkins, medical supplies and toys.
  • We have arranged for the shipment of 4 x 20 foot containers to Colombo from Hong Kong containing various toys including the following:
    • 7,000 wooden cricket sets from Pakistan
    • 28,000 assorted sports items
    • 1,000 dolls for girls
    • 1,000 doll strollers for these dolls
    • A 20 foot container worth of plastic tricycles from Taiwan
    • 10,000 yoyos
    • Plush toys, play dough and various other toys to be donated to completely fill the containers.

In all there is more than 60 tonnes of aid on its way to Sri Lanka. A big thank you to the Sai youth of Sydney and Sri Lanka and volunteers from "Change the World" who have become part of our big family in getting this aid to Sri Lanka.

These pictures show some of the work being done right here on the home front including receiving donations of items, packing of boxes, accounting for all contents, loading of containers and finally seeing them off.
